HOUSE 119

SITE : Atsugi Kanagawa JAPAN
FUNCTION : House
TOTAL FLOOR : 116m2

HOUSE 119 "crossing and crossing the scale" A house of a couple and two children built on the banks of the Tamagawa River that flows in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The water surface of Tamagawa flows at a low level about 8m, but the riverbank is at the same level as the ground of the site, and it is a landslide without separation by the bank. This site is almost continuous with the riverbank because there is almost no step between the riverbank and the road. Tamagawa's scale is large enough to surpass the scale of the residential site, but the Sagami River, where Tamagawa joins immediately after, is much larger.
We considered to adopt a C-shaped plane having both the minimal scale and the maximal scale at such a unique place where the minimal scale and the maximal scale are mixed. The large open side of the letter H indicates the spatiality where the scale becomes large toward the river, and the small narrow side is the space for clothes and food in the house. Six such C-shaped planes are arranged as a fan-shaped flat as a whole.
Small-scale rapeseed flowers bloom on the entire surface of Kawahara to create a landscape of maximum scale, large Mt. Fuji looks smaller, lower mountains of Tanzawa appear larger, and the nature in front of you has the scale width of the scale It is happening. I thought to create a sense of life with rape blossoms, houses, rivers and mountains in the play of such scale.
